Call-to-action: Support Hayes Promenade Permit Renewal

TL;DR: Our Hayes Street Shared Spaces permit is up for renewal this Thursday, October 10, 2024. Click here to send an email letting the city know you support continuing the Shared Spaces program (this should open your email program, if it doesn’t, use the email template below). (Oct 10 update: Both agenda items passed. Thanks for your support!)

Subject: Public Hearing: Items Y&Z, Support for the Hayes Street Shared Space

Agenda Item Y:

I am writing in support of the Hayes Street Shared Space. Since 2020, this program has created a vibrant town square in the middle of Hayes Valley, both for folks that live there, and those that visit. From neighborhood events, to holiday parties, to art walks, to simply creating a safe space for folks of all backgrounds to enjoy the street, this program has been a success. The Hayes Street Shared Space is bordered on two sides by Fell/Oak and Franklin/Gough. Opening up the street for people creates a calm, safe environment in a neighborhood that shoulders an outsized burden of vehicular traffic.

Agenda Item Z:

I am also in support of restoring the previous 3-day schedule, with earlier start times, and Sunday. These are essential times both for events to leverage, and for people to enjoy the space.

Thank you for your time.

This Thursday our one-year permit is up for renewal. We’re asking the city to expand the schedule to include Sundays, and start earlier on weekend days. This is basically the schedule we had from 2020 through 2023, and we’re hoping to restore it.

You can help in two ways:

1) Click here to send an email in support of the Hayes Street Shared Space. It must be received by noon on Wednesday Oct 9th.

2) Call into the meeting to provide public comment in person, Thursday, Oct 10th, 9am: https://www.sfmta.com/calendar/iscott-meeting-1579-october-10-2024 (I recognize this is a much heavier lift for folks, though in-person comments are extremely valuable).

Streets are for people!
